New design

▁ oct 18 2004

Recently I launched a new design on printf.dk. It featured optimus prime, so I thought it was cool. Although, I got tired of it pretty fast. I sat down and planned a new design, and you’re looking at it right now. I gathered inspiration around, and this is the outcome. I think it’s pretty good. My buddy Mikkel over at casius.dk was so friendly to let me in on some free hosting at one of his servers. This is a great improvement to the previous connection this website was hosted on, namely a 2mbit DSL. The newly found connection features a 100mbit direct link to the outside world. :-)

I’ve decided to move away from PHP; ever since I got hired at Opera Software, I’ve been ‘forced’ to do modperl and since doing websites in modperl directly isn’t exactly the best philosophy, I’ve been using raw XML transformed by XSLT. This experience has really opened my eyes to how powerful XML can be in practice, thus I have decided to do this webpage in XML and XSLT. What worries me though, is that XSLT has been around for quite some time, and I haven’t picked up on it. Perhaps my entusiasm for new technologies isn’t what it used to be. That being said, I definitly have picked up on a lot of new technologies after starting here. One of the things I have yet to look into, that I will be forced to use in a near future, is SVG. Also, this has been around for a while now; I’m forcing myself into reading up on it. So, this is gonna be the current design of my site for now. I’ve planned to expand it further later on, with articles, extending the WiKi and so forth. My spare time at the moment is very limited, since I am working on a rather large project at work. This isn’t a bad thing though; I have great personal interest in the project, so even when I’m not actually at work, I still work on the project. This is a thing I have been missing in previous jobs. No offense previous employers. ;-)

Next: Backwords porting.. Ugh.
