Bagels

▁ dec 07 2005

As some of you might know, me and my girlfriend both enjoy cooking. Recently we picked up a book called ‘Kaffe’ (‘Coffee’ in Norwegian), that contained various recipes for making special coffees, deserts and pastry. In there was a recipe for bagels, which seemed interesting. We decided to try and make them, but instead I dug up a recipe online. They came out nothing short of awesome. So I’ll share.

Upgrading the firmware on the SE W800

▁ nov 07 2005

Last friday, I got my brand spankin’ new Sony Ericsson W800! This is most possibly the best phone I’ve ever had. I’m coming from the Samsung SGH D-500, which - frankly - is a piece of sh*te. It’s not bad, but compared to the SE, .. wow. I’ve been a fan of Nokia for a while, and have been ambivalent towards SE, Samsung and Siemens, so I was a bit baffled when I got the D-500. I still thought Nokia was the best. I guess you can compare it to coming from Windows to another operating system which does things differently and everything isn’t really integrated as much as one would want (read: linux), but ladies, SE is the Mac of cellphones. Everything just works (TM), and it works well. Anyway, back to the point: My bluetooth was a bit rusty, so I wanted to upgrade my firmware, which turned in to a living hell.

3rd party iTunes jukebox

▁ oct 31 2005

Did you ever sit and spend time copying music from your one computer to your Mac so you could listen to it there instead? Did you ever wish there was an easier way of sharing this music? There is. It’s called [“Bonjour”:http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/bonjour/], and it’s another piece of quality software from Apple, albeit proprietary (open source, though). I’ve written this guide to help you install and setup your linux machine to continously scan a folder recursively, pick up MP3, AAC and other musicformats and expose those over the network to any iTunes (OSX or Windows) and have those available for streaming on-demand. Sort of like an advanced multithreaded jukebox.

White Oslo

▁ oct 25 2005

When I woke up this morning, it wasn’t sunny, like it was yesterday. Oslo is a strange town. This is what I woke up to. As the image says, yes, that is snow. In late October. As a dane, I find this remarkable. It’s been a while since I blogged. I’ll sum up my recent activities in this extended entry. :-)

MySQL joking with Opera?

▁ oct 06 2005

Hm. I don’t know what the “MySQL”:http://www.mysql.com guys are up to, but apparently if you go to their site sending the user-agent Opera'', they will redirect to. To microsoft.com. More specifically to/we/write/great/software.html”. Some web-guy having fun on Opera’s expense? What do they mean by “we write great software”? They do? We do? What? :-) ==

Opera is free, at last

▁ sep 20 2005

Just like “everyone”:http://virtuelvis.com/archives/2005/09/opera-free-free-free “else”:http://my.opera.com/vetler/blog/show.dml/22626 “at”:http://my.opera.com/haavard/blog/show.dml/22619 “opera”:http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/operaStuff/ “are”:http://weblog.timaltman.com/node/793 [“posting”:http://www.eiriks.net/index.php?id=117], opera is now free. We’ve removed the textads, so the $30 we previously required, are now obsolete. Unless you want premium support, of course. Happy days! ==

Clustering updates

▁ sep 15 2005

Yesterday (wednesday) and a few hours this morning, I toyed around with some code generating live statistics on our new [“brand new clustering solution”:http://printf.dk/work/clustering.html]. It generates some graphs, but since we’re using DR(Direct Routing) it’s impossible to meassure the outgoing traffic as well as the incoming. The graphs and charts are pretty interesting though.

Pokemon STD?

▁ sep 14 2005

Over lunch today, me and my “coworker”:http://joen.dk/ had a pretty stupid conversation. We overheard some guy mentioning STD'' (probably not as in sexually transmitted diseases), but we started discussing it. He made a reference to the pokemon theme song ala "gotta catch 'em all!", and I wondered what would happen if you replaced the wordpokemon” with STD in the “lyrics”:http://files.joen.dk/fun/txt/pokemon_std.txt. No conspiracy theory, but it’s still fun. My favorite is:

I will travel across the land Searchin’ far and wide Each STD to understand The power that’s inside! (Power inside!)

Ah. Clustering.

▁ sep 13 2005

As some of you may know, we’ve launched the new “my.opera”:http://my.opera.com/ here at Opera. There’s been a few cumbersome issues with regards to the site. It’s basically been slow. Very slow. The apparent bottleneck from the beginning was suspected to be in the database backend, and so it was.

Opera set released

▁ aug 30 2005

Today it’s opera 10 years anniversary, and I’ve contributed a piece of music.

So far, I would say it’s my best work. I haven’t been mixing for long, so I think it came out ok, considering that. I mainly set up this entry so people could comment on my set, if they care to.

Here’s the tracklist:

  • Luminary - My world (Andy moor remix)
  • Chus & Ceballios vs Richie - Low Frequencies part II
  • Rachael Starr - Till there was you (Reflekt remix)
  • Mario de Bellis - How does it feel
  • Black Pearl - Baracuda
  • Purple Haze - Adrenaline
  • Inertia - The Chamber
  • Abel Ramos - Aquarius
  • Randy Katana - One solid wave
  • Blank & Jones - Perfect silence (E-Craig 212 PM mix)

Get it here!

Oh, and the My.Opera party-thing is going down over at my opera right now.
