New Apples
The keynote this year was as many say it, utterly disappointing. Alas, Apple had an event yesterday. Surely a big crowd had been anticipating this, and hopefully many got their hunger satisfied. (Bada-tisch)
It was an hour-event or so, as far as I could follow on those live-covered sites, and it was all about the media this time. In order of my excitement, they released a new version of iTunes, which is pretty cool. I really like the whole cover-art view it has going on, and I like the Aqua!'' interface, that's allegedly taking overAqua” as we know it. Nothing major, but it looks better. Leopard, I guess.
Then, on to the iTV. A set-top box half the thickness of the Mac Mini, with wireless transmission and they also overcame the one thing I saw missing from any wireless-streaming-tv-device, namely RCA outs. Or digital if you prefer. Which is cool, cause that means you don’t have to rely on awful TV-speakers. Yay. It’s supposed to retail for $299, so that’s pretty cool. What else, what else.. oh! The new iPods, of course. They didn’t quite stimulate my excitement as the aforementioned things did, but I guess they’re alright. They doubled the capacity and made them smaller. They do that every year. Yawn Nah, but it was cool. As a developer, I’d like to see new technologies, and the keynote wasn’t very great at that. Sure, Time Machine is cool and all, but it could have been cooler (ZFS Incremental Revisions). There’s tons of blogs debating that, so I won’t digress.
Who says that time machine isn’t built upon some kind of versioning? Other than that, the tv-device thingy looks nice, just need good old Jon to give it a go. Yey, instant streaming directly from mplayer.
