"Hey sorry, your rent bounced, but here's a picture of Homer Simpson"
That pretty much summarizes what happened over at Dreamhost today. Noticed how that’s not a link? I wouldn’t want you to click it and somehow get into using their services. Why?
I’ll tell you why. Cause Dreamhost sucks. I’ve been with them since September 2005 (according to their own control panel), and I’ve had a looooad of problems with them. I don’t even know where to begin. To get you up to speed, I’ll paraphrase what happened last night: all of their customers received an email saying that they were just automatically re-billed. “That’s odd,” I say, cause I just paid my bill for the next year. So I complain, and within 24 hours I get an email back saying sorry and all that, and like their newsletters, the email seems to be written by a 12 year old; Josh - oh, he’s also their CEO. What? Yeah
So lets head over to their blog, and there’s this lengthy entry written about people basically losing their money. They wrongfully re-billed seven and a half million dollars, ranging from $200 to $9000. Some poor guy was overcharged nine thousand dollars on his card. I sure as hell hope he could afford that. “But they refunded all of it!” you say. Yeah yeah, of course they did. But you know what? In the time the money was missing and your account was overdrawn, interest has taken its toll. And your credit history spiked. That ain’t all that, now is it. Sigh.
Suffice to say, I’m leaving Dreamhost as of right now. I’m sick of their incompetence and low-end services. They’re dirt cheap and they used to be somewhat decent, but these days it feels like they’re trying to co-host 5000 sites on the same box.
